The Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State, Aboiyaa Bob-Fubara, has taken proactive steps to address pressing medical challenges at the Primary Health Care Centre in Abonnema.
The council boss made this known during an unscheduled inspection visit to the facility, accompanied by key political appointees. During the visit, he assured both staff and patients of immediate interventions aimed at improving the centre’s conditions.
Aboiyaa Bob-Fubara pledged to upgrade the facility’s solar power system, replace more than nine faulty air conditioning units across offices, and repair the damaged soak-away system within the premises.
The commitment followed a comprehensive tour led by the Medical Officer in charge of the centre, Dr. Andrew Etete, alongside the LGA’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. John Chukwu. The officials guided the chairman through the wards, administrative offices, and residential quarters of health workers, highlighting areas in urgent need of attention.
Speaking during the visit, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across the local government. He stressed that providing a conducive environment for healthcare workers and patients remains a top priority.
He further assured residents that similar interventions would be extended to other communities within the LGA, in line with available resources.
Aboiyaa Bob-Fubara also urged residents to take ownership of public facilities by safeguarding them against vandalism and promptly reporting any faults to the appropriate authorities.
In a gesture of goodwill, the chairman presented cash gifts to two mothers in the labour ward who had successfully delivered baby boys.
