Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate removal of car dealership activities from green areas, parks and gardens across the Federal Capital City.
Wike, who expressed concern over the conversion of recreational spaces, including areas around Millennium Park, into car lots, directed relevant authorities to intensify monitoring and ensure strict compliance with the directive.
The move is part of efforts by the FCT Administration to tackle flooding in parts of the capital, as the conversion of green spaces can affect natural drainage and water absorption.
To enforce the directive, the minister has approved the establishment of a task force to monitor and prevent further unauthorised use of designated green areas.
Wike also ordered an investigation into civil servants allegedly responsible for granting illegal approvals for the conversion of green areas into car dealership lots.
The affected officials, including directors in the Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Traffic Management and Urban Affairs departments, have been summoned by the FCT Head of Service, Nancy Sabanti Nathan.
The investigation is expected to determine how the illegal approvals were granted and ensure accountability among officials found culpable.
