The Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr. Thomas Bariere Ariar, has vowed that his administration will not rest until those responsible for the killing of his protocol aide, Philip Barikui, and a resident, Barikpe Barimamma, are brought to justice.
The two men were reportedly killed in a violent attack on Maakoro Street, Bori, prompting the council chairman to visit the scene and the families of the victims.
Bariere described the incident as a major setback to peace and security efforts in Khana, adding that the attack amounted to an assault on the local government administration.
While consoling Barikui’s family, the chairman said he shared a deep bond with the deceased, whom he regarded as a son.
“Philip is your biological son, but I met Philip and my spirit, body and soul accepted Philip, and I can tell you that Philip is my son. In the killing of Philip, I am the one they have killed,” Bariere said.
He added that the attack could have claimed the life of any member of his team, saying, “It could have been me; it could have been any member of our team, but unfortunately, it is Philip.”
Bariere assured the family that Barimamma’s death would not be in vain, declaring: “Bariere Thomas will not rest until those who perpetrated this criminal act are brought to justice.”
The council leadership said it would continue to support security agencies, strengthen security measures and work to prevent further violence in Khana LGA.
