The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has dismissed trending reports alleging that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, influenced the withdrawal decision of the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Chibuike Ikenga, in a statement described the claims as misleading and insisted that Wike does not determine political decisions in the state.
“Though he [Wike] is a very serious colossus in Rivers State and Nigeria at large, he doesn’t influence what happens in Rivers State,” he said.
“We the members of APC discussed and took our decision solely on an agreement we had to chart another course, that is why the governor took that step for the interest of peace and progress of the state,” Ikenga added.
He maintained that the decision was collectively reached by its members as part of efforts aimed at promoting peace and political stability in Rivers State, rather than being directed by any external influence.
