Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a “serial contestant” in elections, insisting he is likely to run again in 2031.
Wike was reacting to Atiku’s recent criticism of the current administration, in which the former vice president claimed that it had not delivered meaningful progress for Nigerians.
During an inspection of ongoing road projects in Abuja, the minister dismissed the remarks, arguing that visible infrastructure development across the FCT contradicts such claims and would be recognized by citizens.
He said Nigerians would not take the criticism seriously, adding that Atiku’s repeated participation in elections speaks for itself.
Wike also challenged Atiku to compare the present state of the FCT with what it was during his time in office, questioning whether any objective assessment would show no improvement.
He maintained that governance would not be derailed by political commentary, stressing that ongoing projects must continue regardless of election season dynamics.
According to him, contractors are focused on delivery and not political debates.
Amid the political exchanges, Wike assured residents that key road projects connecting satellite towns would be completed on schedule to improve mobility and reduce congestion in the city centre.
