The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that a building displaying the “Renewed Hope Movement” signpost belongs to the Commission.
In a statement issued by the Administrative Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Angela I. Ebhodaghe, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC clarified that the building in question is not part of its premises and does not host any such political signage.
According to the Commission, the misinformation likely stemmed from confusion involving the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), which shares a boundary with the building where the signpost was sighted.
INEC emphasized that it does not permit political branding on its facilities, reiterating its commitment to neutrality and independence in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
The Commission further warned that the spread of unverified information could undermine public trust and national unity, urging members of the public to rely on credible and official sources before sharing or publishing such claims.
