The Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt has commissioned a revitalised bottling plant as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure and boost institutional capacity.
The commissioning ceremony, held over the weekend, was performed by the Chairman of Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa. The upgraded facility is equipped with modern, state-of-the-art machinery and has a production capacity of up to 8,000 bags per day.
Head of Information, Sammy Kpenu in a statement said, during the visit, Council members also inspected key ongoing projects within the institution. These include a solar farm initiative constructed by the Federal Government to ensure uninterrupted power supply, as well as a hostel accommodation project being developed through a Public-Private Partnership to address student housing challenges.
At its meeting, the Council approved the promotion of several academic staff to the ranks of Professor and Associate Professor. Seven staff were also elevated to the position of Directors, alongside promotions affecting Deputy Registrars, as well as personnel in the Bursary, Audit, and other administrative cadres.
Speaking at the event, Senator Ohuabunwa reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to advancing the university’s global standing. He emphasised that sustained investment in infrastructure, academic excellence, and innovation would position the institution as a leading university and a model for others.
