Human rights activist and legal practitioner, Chetam Nwala, has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to urgently address the deteriorating state of critical infrastructure across the state.
In an open letter to the governor, Nwala expressed concern over the poor condition of major roads and what he described as the increasing rate of lawlessness in Rivers State.
He specifically cited the deplorable condition of Iwofe Road, which he said was currently causing serious traffic congestion due to failed portions that could be temporarily fixed through patching.
Nwala also urged the state government to undertake remedial works on some roads ahead of the expected arrival of more than 20,000 lawyers in Port Harcourt for an upcoming event.
According to him, the condition of the state’s infrastructure is affecting productivity and damaging Rivers State’s reputation.
“This State is collapsing under your watch as Governor,” Nwala stated, while urging Fubara to set aside political differences and ensure residents do not suffer as a result.
He described his appeal as a call for urgent action and sober reflection, stressing that the governor still has a responsibility to protect the state’s infrastructure and image while in office.
