Following the predictions of the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, that Rivers State is at higher risk of flooding this year, the state Ministry of Environment has outlined measures to be taken by residents to mitigate its effects.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Emenike Geoffrey in a statement on Monday, urged residents to always remove waste from water ways in their areas.
According to him, residents should quickly evacuate and relocate to safer areas when they notice that flood is encroaching their area.
He also advised residents not to throw waste into water channels and carnals as a stitch in time saves nine.
