The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has commenced intervention works at troubled waste disposal zones across Port Harcourt following a directive by its Managing Director, Dr Ibimina Wokoma.
The agency’s intervention team carried out a cleanup exercise at the Rumuokwurusi/Oil Mill Market axis, evacuating heaps of refuse despite heavy rainfall.
According to RIWAMA, the exercise cleared massive refuse heaps that had blocked the road median and roadside, restoring free movement and improving environmental sanitation.
The agency said the intervention was part of activities to commemorate World Clean-Up Day 2026 and was in line with strategies outlined by its management.
It added that similar cleanup operations would be extended to Ogbogoro-Egbelu, Rukpokwu, Eleme Flyover and other identified waste hotspots.
RIWAMA also reminded residents that the approved time for waste disposal is between 6pm and 10pm, urging them to comply with the directive to keep Port Harcourt clean.
