The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB) has joined health and emergency-management stakeholders from 10 states to strengthen coordinated preparedness for floods, cholera and other public-health emergencies.
The board in a statement said, the three-day engagement, organised by UNICEF Nigeria’s Enugu Field Office, began in Port Harcourt on September 23, 2026, with relevant ministries, departments and agencies participating to improve emergency preparedness and response.
Representing the Executive Secretary of RSPHCMB, Dr Chituru Adele, the Board’s Director of Community Health, Dr Joy Wihioka, said the Board was intensifying health education and emergency planning to enhance coordination, support timely response and minimise disruptions to essential health services during emergencies.
The engagement underscored the importance of multisectoral collaboration in protecting communities and ensuring continuity of essential health services during public-health emergencies.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant, follow verified public-health guidance, protect their households and report signs of illness promptly to the nearest health facility.
