Rivers State is seeking to deepen its economic relationship with Norway through increased trade and investment in oil and gas, healthcare, education and other sectors.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the call on Thursday, September 24, 2026, when the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Bæra, visited Government House, Port Harcourt.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, described the longstanding stockfish trade between Nigeria and Norway as a potential gateway to wider economic cooperation.
He said Rivers, as a major centre of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, could partner with Norwegian companies to develop downstream products for international markets.
Fubara also proposed collaboration in healthcare and education and directed the state’s investment agency to engage the Norwegian Embassy on possible areas of partnership.
He further encouraged the Norwegian delegation to meet with the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce and other business groups to explore investment opportunities.
