The Rivers State Police Command has announced plans to commence a statewide enforcement exercise against vehicles with covered, obscured, unauthorized, defaced, or missing registration number plates as part of efforts to strengthen security and enhance public safety across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the enforcement exercise will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, in compliance with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police aimed at preventing criminal elements from concealing their identities and carrying out unlawful activities.
She stated that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to immediately commence enforcement of the directive and ensure strict compliance within their respective jurisdictions.
The police warned that any vehicle found violating the directive would be impounded, while offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with existing laws.
The Command urged vehicle owners and motorists across the state to ensure that their registration number plates are properly affixed, clearly visible, and free from any form of obstruction or alteration to avoid arrest, vehicle impoundment, or prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police also cautioned officers participating in the exercise to carry out their duties professionally and lawfully, stressing that the operation must not be used to harass, intimidate, or extort members of the public.
He warned that any officer found engaging in unprofessional conduct or extortion during the exercise would face strict disciplinary action.
The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and implementing proactive measures to improve public safety across the state.
