The Rivers State House of Assembly has received three reports from its House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, with debate on the reports deferred to a later legislative sitting.
Martins Wachuku, special Assistant on Media to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, said the reports were presented on Tuesday.
Presenting the reports, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, Hon. Enemi George, informed lawmakers that the committee’s intervention in the oil spillage involving the 24-inch Ogale–Bonny Pipeline and the activities of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited had resulted in a peaceful resolution of the matter.
George also disclosed that the committee successfully mediated a dispute between Mr. Bright and 15 others and Zest Optimal Global Services Ltd over the non-payment of contract entitlements, leading to an amicable settlement.
On the third report, the committee expressed concern over the failure of NNPC Ltd to appear before it in response to a petition filed by a cooperative group. George stressed that the committee was established to provide a platform for citizens and communities seeking redress after exhausting other available channels.
Deputy Speaker, Dumle Maol, who presided over the sitting, received the reports and ruled that debate on them be deferred to another legislative day.
