Media Personality, Kordoo Faith, has expressed concern over the persistent blocking of major roads in the state for social events, describing the practice as inconvenient and unfair to motorists.
In a statement on Monday, Faith recounted how one lane of a major road in Port Harcourt was taken over with canopies and event equipment for an occasion held on Sunday night.
According to her, she had expected the road to be cleared by Monday morning since the event had already ended when she passed through the area the previous night. However, she said the canopies and DJ equipment were still occupying one side of the road this morning causing heavy traffic during the morning rush hour.
She lamented that the affected road, which is usually free-flowing, became heavily congested because of the obstruction.
Faith questioned the rationale behind blocking major roads for ceremonies and celebrations, stressing that the development has become a recurring issue in the state.
She described the practice as unnecessary and inconsiderate to other road users, calling on residents and relevant authorities to discourage such actions.
“We can do better, but not if this continues,” she stated.
