The Nigerian Navy has uncovered nine illegal refining sites and recovered about 104,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil during an operation in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The discovery was announced in an operational report released on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho.
Folorunsho said personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny, operating under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, carried out the raid, which led to the discovery of 23 dugout pits. He noted that 18 of the pits contained an estimated 104,000 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude oil.
According to the Navy, the operation is part of its ongoing campaign to curb crude oil theft, dismantle illegal refining activities, and tackle economic sabotage across the Niger Delta.
