The Nigerian Navy has dismantled an illegal fuel storage and distribution facility and recovered about 13,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny under Operation Delta Sentinel, the Navy said in a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.
According to the statement, operatives discovered storage tanks, reservoirs, drums, hoses and other equipment allegedly used for the illegal handling and distribution of petroleum products.
Folorunsho said investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the operation, describing the raid as part of the Navy’s sustained efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and other forms of economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
