The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed 16 sachet water factories in Rivers State over alleged violations of regulatory standards and warned operators against producing unregistered water products.
The agency issued the warning following an enforcement exercise carried out across Asari Toru, Akuku Toru, Degema and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking after the operation, NAFDAC South-South Zonal Director, Chukwuma Oligbu, urged sachet water producers to renew expired licences and comply with registration requirements or risk sanctions.
According to the agency, the affected factories were operating under unhygienic conditions, using unsafe filtration systems, providing false addresses and, in some cases, operating with expired licences and other regulatory breaches.
The agency warned that any factory found operating illegally or obstructing officials during enforcement activities would be shut down and its owners prosecuted.
The agency also called on members of the public to report illegal sachet water production in their communities.
