Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has assured residents that his administration will remain focused on delivering ongoing infrastructure projects despite the prevailing political challenges in the state.
The governor gave the assurance while inspecting the ongoing 7.1-kilometre bypass road project intended to serve as an alternative route for communities around the Port Harcourt International Airport.
Fubara recalled that the project was inaugurated in December last year during the commissioning of the airport road. According to him, the bypass became necessary due to recurring disruptions caused by host communities protesting issues involving airport authorities.
He explained that the frequent blockade of the airport road often affects movement and economic activities within the state.
The governor noted that the bypass is designed to provide the affected communities with a separate access road, while the main airport road would be dedicated strictly to airport operations upon completion.
Fubara further disclosed that about 65 percent of the project has been completed, expressing confidence that contractors would deliver the road before October.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects across the state, stressing that no development initiative already started by the government would be abandoned.
The governor also maintained that his administration remains optimistic and committed to placing the interest of Rivers State above every other consideration, reiterating the government’s “Rivers First” approach.
