The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned owners of event centres, hotels and other public buildings in the FCT against allowing their facilities to be used by illegal organisations.
The administration stated that lands allocated within the FCT are meant strictly for lawful activities, warning that title documents of any facility used for gatherings of illegal organisations would be revoked.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Mr Lere Olayinka.
According to the statement, the move is part of efforts to strengthen security and support ongoing operations by security agencies in the nation’s capital.
“In view of the need to further ensure the security of lives and properties in the FCT and sustain the efforts of security agencies in this regard, usage of Event Centres, Hotels and other public buildings will now be closely monitored,” the statement said.
It added that the monitoring was aimed at ensuring that such facilities were not used by illegal organisations for gatherings capable of disrupting the peace of the nation’s capital.
The FCTA urged owners of the facilities to verify the legality of organisations seeking to use their premises and ascertain the purpose of such gatherings before approving bookings.
The administration further advised operators, especially during the political season, to deal only with leaderships of political parties recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission in respect of the use of their facilities.
The statement also directed owners of event centres and hotels to keep proper records of all transactions relating to the use of their facilities.
According to Mr Olayinka, failure to comply with the directive would attract sanctions, including the revocation of title documents of affected properties.
