TEXT: 2 KINGS 4:1-17
MEMORY VERSE: “And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones” (2 Kings 4:4 KJV).
In our relationship with God, a life of secrecy in our fellowship and communion with Him is delightsome, and beneficial. God loves such lifestyle. It keeps us close to Him as we “dwell in the secret place” of God. It helps us not to live a riotous life, like the people of the world. When we “shut the door behind us,” and shut out the world, we dwell in His presence; and we give Him the opportunity to fill our empty vessels, until they run over and overflow.
God is able to fill our empty vessels: purse, heart, mind, career, business, intellect, health, and others if only we would close the door of our heart to the world and open it to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (Rev. 3:20). People who open themselves to the world usually attract God’s resentment; and leave themselves at the mercy of the evil one and other enemies.
This principle is so important that our Lord Jesus literally said to us, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” (Matt. 6:6 NIV). God told Daniel, “But you, O Daniel, shut up the words and seal the Book until the time of the end …” (Dan. 12:4 AMP). Hezekiah did not get it right. He brought his riches and war arsenal into public domain by showing them to the enemy. God became angry and made Babylon the enemy to defeat them and carry Israel and all her treasures captive after the death of Hezekiah.
Let us learn to keep our secrets with the Lord alone, and no other.
- Realise that only the Lord should be your confidant.
- Lord, never let me expose my secrets with you to an enemy
