TEXT: GENESIS 22:1-18
MEMORY VERSE: “And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together” (Genesis 22:8 KJV).
Our part in our relationship with God is to live a life rooted in His word. Sometimes, it may seem impracticable or painful but we must put ourselves under the authority His word, hold onto what it says, and without doubting too. Such attitude makes us have solid faith, and we believe in the omnipotence of God, and His ability to provide all things. Abraham showed this strong faith and belief.
Abraham was tempted to sacrifice his promised son. He proceeded to obey God. His action showed that he feared and loved God to the extreme: If he was willing to sacrifice his son for God’s sake, there was nothing He would not give to God who gave him everything.
We should imitate Abraham in this attitude. God gave us His only begotten Son for our redemption and deliverance. We should be ready to give and sacrifice anything for His sake, just like Abraham.
Like Abraham, let us understand and trust God that He is able to do all things for us; and that He would not withhold any good thing from us because He loves us, and because He cares.
Many people turn away quickly from God’s word if it seems not to favour them. This is wrong. The proof we have that we love God is to cling to Him in all circumstances, whether or not they are beneficial to us; and that’s what Abraham did. Such is faithfulness; and God loves such attitude, and rewards it bountifully.
Obedience, believe in God, and trusting Him absolutely endeared Abraham to God’s heart, and he became God’s friend also. Let us be like him. We would have no regrets.
- Do only things that would endear you to God’s heart.
- Lord, guide my life through the path of obedience.
