The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed claims that the party plans to grant automatic tickets to National Assembly members ahead of future elections.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Yilwatda stated that neither the party’s constitution nor Nigeria’s electoral laws allow such a provision.
He emphasized that the APC cannot promise automatic tickets to any aspirant, noting that candidate selection must strictly follow established guidelines.
According to him, both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act mandate that candidates emerge through either consensus or direct primaries.
Yilwatda further stressed that all party members seeking elective positions would undergo the same process without exception. He added that participation in primaries would be guided by the Electoral Act, party rules, and internal guidelines.
The APC chairman also indicated that performance would play a key role in determining the chances of those seeking re-election.
