The Common Ground Journalism Forum has strongly condemned the assault on one of its members, Ambassador Allwell Ene, while carrying out his professional duties in Port Harcourt.
In a press release dated April 14, 2026, the forum said Ene was attacked by suspected thugs in the Garrison area of the city while conducting a follow-up story for his media organization. During the incident, his phone, cash, and other personal belongings were reportedly stolen.
The forum called on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, to order an immediate investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
It also urged the police and other security agencies to guarantee the safety of journalists, particularly as the political climate intensifies ahead of another general election.
The forum further expressed sympathy for the injured journalist and wished him a speedy recovery.
The statement was jointly signed by Alambo Datonye, Chairman of the forum in Bayelsa State, and Evelyn Okonma, Chair of the forum in Delta State.
