Social activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has dismissed reports that she quit or stepped down from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial race, insisting that she contested for the ticket until the end.
In a statement addressed to media organisations, Yesufu said headlines suggesting that she withdrew from the contest were inaccurate and should be corrected.
According to her, she fought for the senatorial ticket to the very end but was edged out after what she described as a flawed primary election in which another candidate was declared the winner.
“I reject the narrative that I quit,” she stated, maintaining that she never voluntarily withdrew from the race.
Yesufu explained that while she disagreed with the outcome of the primary, she chose to accept it in the interest of party unity and national interest rather than create divisions within the NDC at a critical political moment.
She said her focus has now shifted to the 2027 presidential election, which she described as the most important contest in the current electoral cycle. She added that she would channel her energy toward supporting what she called the better candidate in that race.
The activist also urged media houses to accurately report the circumstances surrounding her loss, warning against what she termed attempts to rewrite history.
“Let no media house rewrite history. Correct your headlines. Posterity is watching,” she said.
