A 26-year-old Ghanaian lawyer, Sara Araba Tettey, has reportedly died after suffering a cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup on June 17, 2026.
Tettey, a recent law graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and newly called member of the Ghana Bar, was said to have collapsed shortly after jubilant celebrations erupted following the Black Stars’ win.
According to local reports, she was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel in the Bomso area near the university campus in Kumasi when she suddenly became unresponsive after the final whistle.
She was immediately rushed to hospital, where medical personnel reportedly carried out CPR for about 45 minutes in an attempt to revive her.
Despite efforts by doctors and emergency responders, she was later pronounced dead.
Tettey, who worked with O & A Legal Consult, was described by friends, colleagues and former classmates as intelligent, compassionate and dedicated, with a promising legal career ahead of her.
Her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while authorities await autopsy results and funeral arrangements.
