The chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd has reiterated his commitment to sustaining peace and security in the local government area.
Lloyd in a statement through his media aide, Bright Jossy declared that the local government council under his watch will not allow anyone or group to sabotage government’s efforts towards sustaining the prevalent peace and security in the area.
He stated this while inaugurating caretaker chairmen and members of the newly appointed Omudioga and Rumuewhor community development committee (CDC) at the council secretariat in Emohua on Wednesday.
Dr. Lloyd while noting that the ban on the activities of community development committees and youth bodies by the Rivers State Government was still effective across the state, vowed to bring the full weight of the law on anyone or group found violating the order of the State Government in any part of Emohua local government area.
‘Anybody that want to disturb the peace of Emohua local government area will receive the full weight of the law, no matter how highly placed.
“You know that I do not lack the guts to enforce law and order. So, we must learn to obey laws.
“The ban on CDC and Youth activities is not only effective in Emohua LGA; it is a statewide ban by the state government. “So, we won’t allow anyone in our own LGA to violate it”.
Dr. Lloyd warned members of the newly constituted Omudioga and Rumuewhor community development committees not to interfer with the activities of the Council of Chiefs in their communities or harass companies coming to invest in the local government area.
He rather directed them to work in synergy with other organs of their respective communities to sustain the prevalent peace and security, and promote unity in the area.
He said the inaugurated caretaker committees were constituted to serve their respective communities for a renewable period of three months, based on the performance of the committee.
“Your inauguration is not for you to begin to harras companies coming to invest in our LGA.
“You are not Council of Chiefs but you are to work with the Council of Chiefs and other organs of your respective communities to promote peace and unity.
“You have just three months but your tenure can be renewed based on your performance”.
He particularly charged the newly inaugurated Omudioga community development committee to improve on the achievements of the immediate past chairman, Mr John Didia and his members, stressing that to whom much is given much is also expected.
The council chairman further charged community development committees and other organs of communities across the local government area to sensitize the people on the predicted 2023 flood and enforce regular cleaning of waterways and desilting of drainages in their respective communities as part of the mitigation strategies adopted by his administration ahead of the imminent flood as forecasted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
