The Rivers State Government, has approached the Supreme Court to set aside the ruling of the Appeal court on the collection of VAT in the state.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service had appealed the ruling of a Federal High court in Port Harcourt, which mandated state governments to collect VAT.
The Appeal court in its ruling ordered Rivers and Lagos states to maintain status quo pending the determination of an appeal that was lodged by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
Not satisfied with the ruling, the RVSG has through its Attorney General, approached the Apex court to make pronouncement on the matter.
Sources say, Rivers State is praying the supreme court to order that the substantive appeal by the FIRS and all other processes therein, be heard and determined by a new panel of the Court of Appeal.
