U.S. President Donald Trump has released CCTV footage and images of the suspect involved in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The footage, shared shortly before the president addressed the media, reportedly shows the suspect running into the ballroom of the Washington Hilton after bypassing security metal detectors, as armed agents moved quickly to intercept him.
Images also circulated by the president appear to show a shirtless man lying face down in the foyer with his hands restrained behind his back, believed to be the suspected gunman.
Describing the individual as a “would-be assassin,” Trump said the suspect was heavily armed and had breached a key security checkpoint before being subdued.
According to reports by BBC, the president stated that the suspect “charged past a security checkpoint” while carrying multiple weapons.
The shooting, which occurred on Saturday night during the high-profile event, sparked panic and forced the evacuation of top government officials, journalists, and guests.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect is now in custody, while investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the security breach are ongoing.
