Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have rescued two kidnapped victims during a coordinated offensive operation in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of July 26, 2026, following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities around the Lande Jessi general area. According to the Army, armed criminals had earlier invaded Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, where they abducted two residents and made away with food items.
Acting on intelligence, troops launched a targeted search-and-rescue mission across the affected communities, leading to the successful rescue of the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu. The Army said the victims had been held captive for about one week before their rescue.
Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their swift response, professionalism, and resilience during the operation.
“The successful rescue is a clear demonstration of the troops’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the state,” Akaliro said.
He noted that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to intensify efforts against criminality and restore lasting peace across the country.
The commander also reassured residents of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence.
