Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 48 kidnapped victims after repelling terrorists who attacked Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2026, when a large group of terrorists riding about 40 motorcycles stormed the community.
The statement said the terrorists rounded up several residents with the intention of taking them into the bush, while another group remained on the outskirts of the village with the motorcycles.
Troops of Sector 2 were immediately deployed after receiving a distress call and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon arrival at the scene. The overwhelming response forced the attackers to abandon the kidnapped victims and flee into the surrounding bush.
The military said the swift intervention resulted in the successful rescue of all 48 abducted civilians.
However, one civilian was killed during the attack, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the operation, troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to prevent further attacks and maintain security.
The Theatre Command commended the gallantry and professionalism of the troops, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across the North West.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist elements from the region.
