A 55-year-old businessman, Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu, who deals in clothing at the popular Balogun Market on Lagos Island, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly attempting to export 3.30 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the walls of cartons used to package food items bound for the United Kingdom.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday, July 23, 2026, following the interception of the cocaine consignment by NDLEA operatives at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, July 22.
According to the agency, investigations into the failed shipment initially led to the arrest of three cargo agents identified as Nkwor Onyekachukwu Justina, Adeleke Abiola Taoheed, and Ukanwa Grace Pilgrim, who handled the consignment.
Further investigations also resulted in the arrest of Kenneth Okakpu, who reportedly delivered the shipment to the cargo agents for export.
NDLEA said Okakpu’s arrest provided investigators with crucial information that led to the identification of Onuigbo as the alleged mastermind of the drug trafficking syndicate.
The agency added that Onuigbo was eventually apprehended while allegedly attempting to send another cocaine consignment to the United Kingdom, bringing the operation to a successful conclusion.
