The Federal Government of Nigeria, has advised Media organisations in the country to set up special desks for fact-checking to curb fake news.
Minister of Information and Communication, Lai Mohammed said this when the editorial board of the Guardian Newspaper paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday.
He explained that the media has a duty to get its facts right and ensure that quacks and hackers do not dominate the media space in the country.
He also stated that for the media to be able to play its role, which is to inform, criticise and stimulate debate, it must take responsibility for whatever it sends out.
Mohammed said many Nigerians have approached his office, urging the Federal Government to do something, so as to curb the spread of fake news in the country.
