Spanish football club Tenerife have confirmed the death of their player, Jesus de Miguel, aged 30, following a serious collision during a league match on Monday night.
According to the Mirror, the incident occurred towards the end of Tenerife’s Spanish Segunda encounter with Andorra when De Miguel chased a long ball forward and collided with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who struck him with a raised knee while attempting to challenge for the ball.
Owono was shown a red card for the challenge as De Miguel remained motionless on the pitch, prompting players to urgently call for medical assistance.
The match was subsequently abandoned as medical personnel attended to the injured footballer before rushing him to the hospital.
However, his condition reportedly deteriorated in the early hours of the morning, with medical reports indicating a worsening neurological condition.
