The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says it is training healthcare workers across public and private health facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to strengthen preparedness for Ebola.
The agency disclosed this in a statement, noting that the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Training of Trainers programme is designed for facility IPC focal persons and frontline healthcare workers.
According to the NCDC, the training focuses on practical skills in early identification and triage of suspected Ebola cases, infection prevention practices, standard and transmission-based precautions, as well as the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
The agency said the initiative, supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), UNICEF and the DRASA Health Trust, would equip facility IPC focal persons with the knowledge to train other healthcare workers and strengthen infection prevention measures across health facilities.
It added that the programme would improve healthcare facility readiness, protect healthcare workers and patients, and prevent healthcare-associated transmission of infections.
