Rights group, Scial Action has called for urgent intervention to address escalating gas eruptions, explosions and deaths in Bille Kingdom, Rivers State, following the death of 21-year-old Joy Amos.
The organisation made the call during a press briefing on Wednesday, where its Senior Programmes Officer, Dr Prince Edegbuo, condemned what he described as the lackadaisical approach to the worsening situation in the community.
Edegbuo stressed the need for immediate action to prevent further loss of lives, as Social Action and representatives of Bille Kingdom demanded decisive measures to address the growing danger facing residents.
The organisation warned that with the dry season approaching, the community could not afford another cycle of warnings, promises and inaction.
It called for urgent measures to identify the source of the gas eruptions, protect residents, investigate the incidents and ensure justice for victims and their affected families.
Social Action stressed that the people of Bille needed concrete action rather than mere assurances, urging relevant authorities to intervene before another life was lost.
