The Rivers State House of Assembly has adjourned plenary to June 26, 2026, to consider the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2026 to 2028 submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The MTEF, which outlines the state’s fiscal and economic projections over a three-year period, is a key budgetary document that must be approved by the legislature before the 2026 Appropriation Bill can be presented.
The governor’s submission was read during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, after which lawmakers resolved to adjourn to enable detailed consideration of the framework.
The development marks a significant step in the budget preparation process, particularly against the backdrop of previous disagreements between the executive and legislative arms of government over fiscal matters.
The Assembly is expected to deliberate on the framework when it reconvenes on June 26.
