The Rivers State Police has confirmed the discovery of the lifeless body of a woman inside a tricycle in Ogbogoro, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, while her two young children were found alive beside her.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, along CPM Street in Ogbogoro, leaving residents of the area shocked and saddened.
According to a resident, identified as Senibo, the discovery was made in the morning after residents noticed two young girls and the body of an adult woman inside a parked tricycle and alerted the authorities.
The eyewitness said one of the children reportedly told police that their father had allegedly assaulted their mother with an object at a guest house where they spent the night. The child further alleged that the man fled after realizing the woman could no longer stand or speak.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the two children have been handed over to the deceased woman’s sister, while the body has been deposited in a mortuary.
She added that the police have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the suspect, who is currently on the run. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are ongoing.
