Chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC, Retd. Justice George Omereji has reacted to claims by opposition parties participating in Saturday’s local government elections that the Commission is yet to disburse grants meant for the election, to them.
Omereji in a statement in Port Harcourt, today, said there is no provision for grants for any political party participating in Saturday’s election.
He said it was made known to political parties when the Commission, released time table for the elections, few weeks ago.
He said there is no law directing the Commission to release grants to political parties.
Omereji also said the Commission’s business is to conduct a free, fair and credible election for Rivers people.
