The Rivers State Government has approved the immediate relocation of students and staff of Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, to State Primary School, Nkpolu, both in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, following severe flooding at the school premises.
Tochi Abinye Pepple, Head, Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Education, Rivers State, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, said the relocation takes effect from Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as a precautionary measure to safeguard the lives, safety and well-being of students and staff.
He said the Ministry of Education was collaborating with the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, which had earlier visited the school to assess the situation.
Nwagor said the Committee was investigating the causes of the flooding and developing sustainable solutions, with immediate, medium- and long-term interventions being considered.
He said the temporary relocation would allow academic activities to continue in a safe and conducive environment while efforts were intensified to address the flooding and restore the school premises to a suitable condition.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting students and teachers and ensuring that children across Rivers State have access to quality and uninterrupted education.
