The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rivers State, has commenced integrity testing of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, which began on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, is aimed at ensuring that all BVAS hardware systems are fully functional and ready for deployment on Election Day.
Head of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department, Mr Pius Nwankwo, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 29, saying the exercise involves comprehensive physical and functional checks of the devices.
He said the checks cover critical components, including the optical system, connectivity hardware, USB ports and external connections, adding that faulty components identified would be removed and replaced with certified operational units.
Nwankwo said the exercise was already 60 per cent complete and expressed confidence that the remaining testing and replacement of defective components would be concluded by the weekend.
