The member representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. O. K. Chinda, has called on the Federal and Rivers State Governments to urgently declare a state of emergency in flood-affected areas across the state.
Chinda made the call on Tuesday during an inspection of communities and facilities affected by the ongoing flooding in parts of his constituency.
According to Obio/Akpor Social Media, the APC governorship candidate visited the Model Primary Health Care Centre, Eneka; Rumuawholu Community; Government Secondary School, among other affected areas, where he assessed the impact of the flooding on residents.
The lawmaker said the flooding was affecting communities across Rivers State, stressing the need for immediate intervention to provide relief to victims and address the recurring challenge.
Chinda also identified some factors contributing to the flooding and assured residents that he and his deputy would proffer permanent solutions to the problem if given the opportunity to lead the state.
He was accompanied by the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly and APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Major Jack; the member representing Port Harcourt State Constituency 1, Hon. Solomon Wami; the member representing Obio/Akpor State Constituency 2, Lady Emilia Amadi; as well as other party and community leaders.
The visit, according to the lawmaker, underscores his commitment to lasting solutions, safer communities and a better Rivers State.
