The Rivers State Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Oyigbo Police Division following allegations of extortion and misconduct.
The action was taken after a human rights activist accused the officer of collecting ₦500,000 from a man who was reportedly arrested and detained without any established offence. The activist, who posted evidence of the transaction on social media, also alleged that the DPO initiated a controversial charge against a woman.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Blessing Agabe, said the move underscores the command’s dedication to accountability, transparency, and professional policing.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, directed the officer’s removal to ensure a fair, thorough, and unbiased investigation into the allegations.
