The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu has launched the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Vigilant App and the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network to strengthen financial-fraud reporting, public engagement and communication within the Force.
The initiatives were unveiled on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the NPF Conference Centre, Jabi, Abuja, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the financial and telecommunications sectors.
The Vigilant App, developed by the Force ICT Department with stakeholders in the financial-services ecosystem, provides members of the public with a platform to report suspected financial fraud, upload evidence, track cases and receive feedback.
The NPF–MTN CUG Network, on the other hand, is designed to provide police personnel nationwide with secure and affordable communication, with the aim of improving emergency coordination and operational response across commands and units.
Speaking at the launch, the IGP described the initiatives as practical steps in the Force’s digital transformation agenda.
He said the Vigilant App would deepen engagement with the public, while the CUG Network would enhance communication among police personnel, making the Force more connected, responsive and effective.
Disu stressed that technology must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with respect for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to collaborating with relevant institutions and private-sector partners to improve public safety and national security.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, said the initiatives demonstrated the Force’s determination to deploy technology-driven solutions that improve service delivery and strengthen public engagement.
He urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud.
The launch was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, Police Service Commission, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria, Vigilant Technology Limited, TIMPH International Limited and other stakeholders.
The Police Force said it would continue to leverage innovation and strategic partnerships to provide more accessible, responsive and people-centred policing services across Nigeria.
