Two police officers attached to the Aluu Divisional Police Station in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have reportedly been killed by unidentified gunmen during an attack along the Mbodo-Aluu section of Obiri Ikwerre Road.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. while the officers were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at a security checkpoint.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, as residents and business owners in the area declined to speak on the incident when contacted.
Following the attack, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, alongside members of the Command’s management team, visited the scene on Tuesday to assess the situation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the Rivers State Police Command would issue an official statement on the incident.
