The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has announced that its Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP) is currently installing smart prepaid meters for customers at no cost.
The company stressed that the meters are provided free of charge, with no installation fees, “arrangements,” or involvement of middlemen.
PHED warned customers not to make any payments before or during the installation process, stating that anyone who demands money should be reported immediately.

The company reiterated that obtaining a prepaid meter is a customer’s right and described extortion in the process as a criminal act, urging the public to speak up against it.
