The Rivers State Police Command has dissolved all Tactical Teams and established a new formation, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), as part of efforts to improve operational efficiency, professionalism, and public trust in policing.
The move, announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. It is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju.
According to the statement, all disbanded Tactical Teams have been merged into the VCRU, a specialized unit tasked with responding swiftly to incidents of violent crime while adhering strictly to rules of engagement and respecting fundamental human rights.
The Command also issued a stern warning against extortion, abuse of office, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that any breach of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct will attract disciplinary action.
Adepoju reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to cooperate with the police and report suspicious activities or unprofessional behavior by officers.
