Support staff of the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHRCL) are currently protesting over the delayed implementation of a new salary structure and other unresolved welfare issues.
The protest, being staged by members of the Support Staff Union of Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (SUPSUPHAR), follows concerns over the non-implementation of a new salary and remuneration package approved to take effect from October 1, 2026.
The union had, in a notice dated October 2, 2026, notified the management of its plan to commence a peaceful protest and industrial action over the issues.
It also demanded the payment of outstanding salaries and other entitlements, as well as approval of a ₦1 million one-time housing/rent relief for eligible support staff.
Other demands include improved consultation between management and recognised labour representatives on issues affecting workers’ welfare.
