The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of a Rivers State resident, identified as Mr Hassan.
Spokesperson of the Command, ASP, Blessing Karbolo Agabe in a statement said the arrest followed credible information received by the Command on September 7, 2026, concerning the victim’s abduction a day earlier around Fidelity Bank, Garrison, Port Harcourt.
According to the Police, the victim was taken to Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, where he was held for three days before being released after his relatives paid a ransom of ₦10.3 million.
Operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) subsequently commenced intelligence-led operations, leading to the arrest of two suspected members of the syndicate.
The suspects were identified as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, also known as “Big Boby,” from Aguleri Community, Otuocha LGA, Anambra State, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, also known as “Duff Man,” from Ikot Ukpor, Essien Udim LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
The Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the operation and disclosed that the gang had six members who used a white mini-bus, commonly known as a Keke bus, during the operation.
The Command said efforts had been intensified to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the Police in identifying and apprehending criminal elements.
Adepoju assured residents that such information would be treated confidentially, adding that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to disrupt kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks across the state.
He also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
