The Rivers State Government has announced the shifting of the total lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas that was scheduled to resume 8.00 p.m., Sunday 17th May 2020 until further notice.
Governor Nyesom Wike made this known in a state-wide broadcast at Government House Port Harcourt today, after the state security council meeting.
He said the council decided to extend the resumption of the lockdown after putting into consideration the hardship faced by residents. The essence of the extension is to enable residents stuck-up foods and medicine, he noted.
Gov. Wike further, announced a state wide curfew from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. on Thursday 14th May 2020, Friday 15th May 2020, and Saturday 16th May 2020 respectively.
Wike who noted that the measures are difficult but necessary and called on residents to obey government’s directives. He said the directives are not meant to punish the people of the state but aimed at protecting them from the dreaded coronavirus.
